Socks

Gosh, it seems like forever since I last talked to you all.  I’ve got so much to tell, but I’ll start with the important stuff first…you know knitting news.

I entered a pair of socks and some of my spinning at the county fair this year.  I got a total of 5 blue ribbons, 2 red ribbons and a ribbon to enter my spinning (blend) at the state fair level next year.

Here’s the spinning entries all lined up.  The missing skein is the State Fair Ribbon winner which got put on a special table with the other State Fair and Best in Show entries.

I did a pair of “Pirate Socks” for my son (see the dark socks on left) and they won a blue ribbon in the “Adult Sock” category.

Last, but not least, my “Blend” category that won the gold ribbon to qualify to compete at the State Fair level next year.  The yarn was dyed by Dianne, who has Creatively Dyed out of SC.  The fiber is a wool/seacell blend and spins like a dream.  I did a 2 ply and it came out to 13 wpi, which is about a DK weight.

One of the reasons I haven’t posted in quite awhile, we have a new neighbor…a natural gas well.  Big brother is moving into our neighborhood and drilling for natural gas and likely oil.  The drilling rig came in on Friday and started drilling 24/7 through the weekend with a noise that was deafening for a quiet country dirt road neighborhood.  This was Sept 5th to be exact, the same day that I went back to see my dentist about an infection from a tooth extraction the week before.  So between getting teeth pulled, infections and drilling rigs… I wasn’t a very happy camper and I purposely don’t blog when I’m having a bad day or in this case, bad week.

The sheep and goats are hungry, I’m late for their breakfast and they are letting me know.  I’ll be shearing in the next couple of weeks, so I’ll get some before and after pics to share for my next post.  Until then… happy knitting!!

I’ve put the lace aside for awhile and working on my Bellatrix socks.  I have to finish them by the end of June for them to qualify for the Sock Knitters Anonymous, May-June challenge.  I started them BEFORE I started my Forest Canopy Shawl or the Heartland Shawl.  Well I’ve gotten a few more rows since this picture, but here’s how they look so far.

I also have to come up with my own sock design for the June-July challenge.   I have to cast on before June 30th.  These girls don’t let a sock knitter sit idle, that’s for sure.  You can join the group on Ravelry…come on over the water is fine….
